National Cadet Corps (NCC)

We conduct regular parades for improving physical efficiency and mental streegth of our cadets. 'NCC plays a vital role as India's second line of defence. Our cadets undergo training in drill, shooting, map reading, first aid etc. Our activities includes cleaning, public health surveys and they are ready to serve during calamities. The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. Needless to say, the NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.

Career Guidance

A career guidance and counselling cell has been functioning in this school since 2000. We conduct programmes to make the students more informed about career choices. We provide classes on personality development, health education, adolescent education and anti narcotic awareness campaign every year. Classes are engaged by experts in the respective areas. This includes counselling sessions for parents as well.

National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme has been functioning in this VHSE since 2000 for the overall development of students and to ensure their commitment to the society. NSS was a novel dream of M. K Gandhi. We take over innumerable social activities according to contemporary needs.

Our regular activities include, Planting of saplings, Renovation of Anganvady,Visiting old age homes, Medical camps, Awareness programmes on waste management, drug addiction etc. We conduct seven day camp every year through which students get ample training in personality development and community service. Our volunteers do commendable service during periods of crisis and disasters. To benefit the public, we distribute news papers to the main Valakom Bus station. After successful completion of programme, students are awarded certificates and grace marks.

Scouts and Guides

Scouting and Guiding is one of the important Co-curricular activities in schools vide Sub Rule (1) of Rule-10 of Chapter VIII of Kerala Education Rules.

It aims in developing useful citizens, providing intellectual, physical, moral, spiritual, and emotional training and Leadership qualities.

The Scout/Guide Units of RVVHSS, are two of the oldest units in the Educational District. Several Scouts and Guides of this School procured National Level Rashtrapathi Awards and State Level Rajya Puraskar Awards.

Junior Red Cross

The activities of the JRC are intended to encourage the younger generations to cultivate humanitarian spirit by understanding the Red Cross principles and ideas, and by participating actively in the Movement. The overarching idea behind the Junior Red Cross is to enable the country’s youth, so that they may one day contribute, in their own way, to the establishment of world peace and the welfare of Mankind.

A unit of JRC was started in this school in 2008. It has 100 members. We conduct activities like visiting orphanages engaging in charity works and social service

LITTLE KITES

Objectives of Little KITES programme
  1. 1) To encourage the natural interest of students in ICT field and to create a culture for appropriate usage of technology and software.
  2. 2) To ensure participation of students in the usage and upkeeping on ICT equipments at schools, thereby increasing the productivity of the school is ICT enabled learning.
  3. 3) To empower students to undertaken minor technical issues of ICT equipments.
  4. 4) To enrich students on proper and safe internet usage and cyber security, and also to inculcate the importance of language computing.
    Little KITEs’ IT Clubs is an unique initiative of KITE, which feature over 1 lakh student members.
    The Hi-School Kuttikootam programme, which was part of the Public Education Rejuvenation Mission of the State Government, through which students were given intense training in 5 areas such as Animation, Cyber Safety, Malayalam Computing, Hardware and Electronics, has been structurally upgraded in Student Police Cadets model, thus becoming ‘Little KITEs IT Clubs’.

On-the-Job Training

In order to be enrich our students with practical experience, they are given ten day training in reputed firms and institutions every year. We select the firms such as KSRTC depot Kottarakkara, Popular automobiles kottarakkara for automobile students. Biomedical students get training in hospitals like Vijayas hospital Kottarakkara and Pranav hospital Kottarakkara. Accountancy students are given expert training in tax consultancy centers and in firms like state farming corporation of kerala

The students are evaluated jointly by the teacher and the expert practitioner. Students are to be given project work to be done individually or in small groups

Club Activities

The clubs actively functioning in our school are Eco Club, Science Club, Maths Club, Hindi Club, Social Science Club, Sportz Club, Malayalam Club and Sargavela. All these clubs are very dynamic and creative. Club activities give the memebers a quest for more creation and arouse their innovative thoughts. Important days are observed and competitions are conducted on these days. Participation in each club can hone communication skill, leadership quality, sportsman spirit, environmental awareness, creative thinking, decision making power, scientific attitude, eco friendly living, social awareness and teach how to work effectively with other people.
